Quality and sustainability

The quality of a compounded material shows in whether every batch performs the same. Sustainability shows in whether the material is safer and whether it does the same job with fewer resources. This page explains what GREENPOLYMER does in both areas.

Testing capabilities

All of the following equipment is in use.

  • Rheology

Melt is pushed through a die at a set temperature and load; cuts taken at fixed intervals are weighed

    • Melt flow rate tester, automatic melt flow rate tester
  • Mechanical

A pendulum breaks a notched bar supported at both ends; the energy it absorbs gives the result

    • Universal testing machine
    • Izod and Charpy pendulum impact testers
    • Falling weight tester
    • Falling ball tester
    • Shore durometer
    • Rockwell hardness tester
  • Thermal

A loaded bar is heated in an oil bath at a steady rate; the result is the temperature at which it reaches the set deflection

    • HDT / Vicat tester
    • DSC melting point tester
    • TGA thermogravimetric analyzer
  • Flammability and electrical safety

A flame is applied as specified; afterflame time and whether drips ignite the cotton below decide the class

    • UL 94 flammability tester
    • Horizontal and vertical burning tester
    • Glow-wire tester
    • Needle flame tester
    • Tracking resistance tester
  • Aging and environment

Plaques are aged under a xenon lamp for a set time, then their color difference ΔE from the unaged state is measured

    • Constant temperature and humidity chamber
    • UV accelerated aging chamber
    • Xenon-arc tester
    • Yellowing resistance tester
    • Salt spray tester
  • Color and appearance

A spectrophotometer lights the plaque, measures its reflectance spectrum and reports the color difference ΔE from the standard

    • Spectrophotometer
    • Multi-light-source color matching booth
    • Rub resistance tester
  • Composition and physical properties

Immersion method: weighed in air, then in a liquid; buoyancy gives the density

    • XRF spectrometer
    • Ash muffle furnace
    • Solid density meter
    • Rapid moisture analyzer
  • Specimen preparation

Notch cutter: the bar, clamped on a slide, passes a turning form cutter that mills the V notch for the impact test

    • Compression press
    • Motorized notching machine
    • Forced-air drying oven

Note: results from our own equipment are used for R&D and release control. When certification or a third-party report is needed, samples are sent to a third-party lab on request.

Quality control process

  1. Incoming inspection

Specification and batch of raw materials such as resins, flame retardants, fibers and pigments; key raw materials are tested for melt flow rate, moisture and more

  2. Process control

Ratios, temperatures, screw speed and output controlled to the process card; melt flow rate and appearance checked on regular samples

  3. Final inspection

Key values tested on every batch (such as melt flow rate, density, impact, ash content, color difference, moisture); released after passing

  4. Retained samples

A sample of every batch is retained for later checks

  5. Batch traceability

Batch number linked to raw material batches, production records and inspection records

  6. Customer feedback

After feedback we trace by batch, then give an analysis and corrective actions

This section follows common industry practice. To be corrected by GREENPOLYMER.

The GRS scope certificate lists PP, ABS, PE, PC, PET, PA and PBT pellets made entirely from post-consumer recycled material, and grades that blend recycled and virgin material. A scope certificate does not mean every shipment is certified under GRS; that is shown by a transaction certificate (TC).

Product compliance documents

We provide the following documents per grade:

  • TDS and SDS (Chinese and English)
  • RoHS test report
  • REACH SVHC test report
  • Halogen test report (halogen-free grades)
  • Item-by-item confirmation against your substance list (such as PFAS, PAHs, phthalates)

Please send us your substance list and its version number. We confirm the test items against the list.

Sustainability: four questions you may have

  • Do you need halogen-free flame retardancy?

Many electrical and electronics brands restrict brominated and chlorinated flame retardants. GREENPOLYMER's flame-retardant technology focuses on halogen-free solutions. Halogen-free grades include GRN-PCA-N510, GRN-PCA-N520 and GRN-PC-N510. "Halogen-free" is usually judged against the limits in IEC 61249-2-21, as shown in the test report of the grade.

  • Do you need fluorine-free flame retardancy?

Many flame-retardant formulations use PTFE to prevent dripping during burning. PTFE is a fluoropolymer. The EU is reviewing a PFAS restriction proposal (not yet adopted), and some export brands already write "PFAS-free" into their material specifications. GRN-PCA-S520 and GRN-PC-S520 use a silicone-based flame-retardant system without PTFE anti-drip agent. See the article Halogen-free and fluorine-free flame retardants.

  • Do you need recycled material?

GREENPOLYMER can supply versions with recycled content while meeting the performance requirements; their grade codes end in -R. The type of recycled material (PCR or PIR) and the ratio are set per project and stated in the TDS and traceability documents. Recycled material varies more from batch to batch than virgin material, so please validate several batches before mass production. Certificate to be uploaded.

  • Do you want lower weight and less painting?

    Lightweighting

Carbon-fiber-reinforced PA6 has a density of about 1.2–1.35 g/cm³; aluminum alloy is about 2.7 g/cm³ (Typical values. Refer to the actual TDS.). Lighter parts help reduce energy use.

    Mold-in-color (paint-free)

High-gloss mold-in-color materials remove the painting step and reduce coatings and VOCs.

    Color matched at compounding

Color is set once, at pelletizing, which reduces rework and scrap caused by color differences.

Quality control for 3D printing materials

Filament diameter, ovality, moisture content and spooling quality need dedicated in-line inspection and packaging control. See the filament pages.
