Front panels and drive trays have many vents and thin walls. Thin-wall parts reach V-0 less easily, and still need good appearance and flow.
Advice · Candidates
Advice
Rate flammability at the actual wall thickness of the thinnest point. For thin-wall parts, choose high-flow flame-retardant grades and confirm filling in mold flow analysis.
Servers and network equipment run around the clock. AI servers draw more power, so areas around fans, air shrouds and power supplies get hotter. Plastic parts creep and warp, and flame retardancy must hold over the long term.
Advice · Candidates
Advice
Choose materials by the actual operating temperature, with reference to the material's relative thermal index (RTI, UL 746B). For large parts such as air shrouds, choose dimensionally stable, low-density materials. For fan frames, choose low-warpage reinforced materials.
More and more purchasing specifications require halogen-free and low smoke. Some customers are concerned about PFAS and require no PTFE anti-drip agent.
Advice
First confirm the definition and limits of "halogen-free" in your specification (such as the chlorine and bromine limits of IEC 61249-2-21). When PTFE must be excluded, choose silicone-based flame-retardant grades and validate flammability and long-term performance.
Outdoor equipment: weathering, light and IR transmission
Pain point
Outdoor cameras and base stations face sun and rain for years, and housings fade and become brittle. Domes yellow and degrade images. IR illumination windows must look black and let infrared through.
Advice
Use weather-resistant grades for housings and test impact and color difference after xenon-arc weathering. Use transparent PC with a hard or UV-resistant coating for domes. Use IR-transmissive black PC for IR windows, setting the wavelength and transmittance targets first.
These three grades are HB, so for security-equipment housings flammability must be verified against GB 16796
IR-transmissive black PC is available for sensor and LiDAR windows
Supply stability and consistency
Pain point
Equipment makers need stable, substitutable material sources. Flammability, color and flow must be consistent from batch to batch.
Advice
Validate substitute materials fully against the system maker's specification, including flammability, dimensions, color and long-term performance. For volume supply, agree outgoing inspection items for key properties.

Industry overview and trends
The server market is growing fast
In 2025, about 4.727 million servers were sold in China, up about 15 % on the previous year; sales were about RMB 466.3 billion, up about 55 %. AI servers accounted for about 761,000 units and about RMB 253 billion in sales, more than half the total.
Rising power density, higher cooling demands
AI servers draw far more power than general-purpose servers. Fans, air shrouds and power supplies run hotter. Liquid cooling is a key direction for the industry, and plastic parts around cold plates, quick connectors and piping must resist water and coolant and be dimensionally stable.
Localized supply chains
The domestic share of CPUs, AI chips, controller chips and power supplies is rising. System makers need stable, substitutable material supply and flame-retardant materials with consistent batches.
More outdoor communications and security equipment
Outdoor base stations, Wi-Fi equipment and cameras face sun and rain for years. Housings must be weather and impact resistant, and some parts must also be light-transmitting, IR-transmissive or RF-transparent.
More environmental purchasing requirements
More and more purchasing specifications require halogen-free, low-smoke materials. The EU universal PFAS restriction is still a proposal, but some customers already ask for grades without PTFE anti-drip agents.

AI servers use much more power. Fans, air baffles and PSUs run hotter. Liquid cooling is a key direction; plastic parts near cold plates, quick connectors and pipes must resist water and coolant.
Supply chains are localizing. OEMs need stable, second-source materials with consistent flame-retardant performance.
Outdoor base stations, Wi-Fi units and cameras need weathering, impact resistance, and in some parts light, IR or RF transmission.
More specifications ask for halogen-free materials.

Notes
IEC 62368-1 (GB 4943.1-2022 for China CCC) sets different flammability requirements for fire enclosures and internal parts; check the specific classes against the standard clause. Confirm the requirement for each part with the equipment design.
Plastic parts used outdoors often need UL 746C f1 (property retention after UV and water immersion). UL 746C f1 rating of the weather-resistant grades: to be verified by GREENPOLYMER.
Carbon-fiber-reinforced materials block signals; do not use them for radomes or housings with built-in antennas.
IEC 62368-1, UL 507, IEC 62262 and similar are product or component standards; what they certify is not the material itself.

Assembly of drive trays, air shrouds and cable management parts
Printed parts cannot replace injection-molded samples for flammability certification. For parts used inside cabinets, use injection-molded parts of the production grade.
The properties of printed parts depend on print orientation, layer thickness and infill. Carbon-fiber-reinforced filament may affect wireless signals.
Not always. IEC 62368-1 sets requirements by energy source and part location. Many OEMs simply require V-0 in their specifications. Follow the equipment design and your specification, and rate at the actual wall thickness.
Q2. Why is mPPE common for air shrouds?
mPPE (often called PPO) has low density, good dimensional stability, heat resistance and low water uptake, and halogen-free FR grades reach V-0 easily. These properties reduce warpage in large thin parts. FR PC or PC sheet are also used, depending on design and cost.
Q3. How do I choose materials for outdoor camera housings?
Define the conditions first: sunlight, temperature range, IP and IK ratings. Housings often use weather-resistant PC/ASA or ASA, and outdoor plastics often need UL 746C f1. When weather-resistant HB grades are used for security-equipment housings, flammability must be verified against GB 16796. Domes use clear PC with UV or hard coating. IR illuminator windows can use IR-transmissive black PC.
Q4. Do you offer flame-retardant grades without PTFE?
Yes. Our silicone-based FR PC and PC/ABS grades use no PTFE anti-drip agent. Confirm your specification first, then validate flammability and long-term performance. The EU universal PFAS restriction is still a proposal.
